Model Context Protocol (MCP)

One-click integration guide for Claude Desktop, Cursor IDE, Windsurf, and Smithery.

Cursor users: start with Connect Cowpin to Cursor โ€” one page, copy-paste config.

Cowpin provides an official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows LLM assistants and coding agents to save, search, and recall research directly from your Cowpin memory vault.

Cowpin MCP server โ€” Glama quality score

Open-source bridge: github.com/cowpin-ai/mcp-server ยท Directory listing and TDQS: Glama

โšก Quick Setup

Install the bridge (works today)

curl -fsSL https://www.cowpin.com/install-mcp.sh | bash

That saves ~/.local/share/cowpin/mcp-bridge.mjs. Use it in MCP config with Node โ€” no npm registry required.

Remote HTTP (no local process): point MCP at https://www.cowpin.com/api/agent/mcp with Authorization: Bearer cowpin_โ€ฆ โ€” see Connect Cowpin to Cursor.

npm @cowpin/mcp-server: optional after publish; if npx returns 404, use the install script above.

1. Claude Desktop Setup

Add the Cowpin MCP server to your claude_desktop_config.json:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cowpin": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["~/.local/share/cowpin/mcp-bridge.mjs"],
      "env": {
        "COWPIN_AGENT_API_KEY": "cowpin_REPLACE_ME"
      }
    }
  }
}

2. Cursor IDE Setup

In Cursor, open Settings โ†’ Features โ†’ MCP Servers or edit .cursor/mcp.json in your repository:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cowpin": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["~/.local/share/cowpin/mcp-bridge.mjs"],
      "env": {
        "COWPIN_AGENT_API_KEY": "cowpin_REPLACE_ME"
      }
    }
  }
}

Full walkthrough: Connect Cowpin to Cursor.

3. Smithery One-Click Install

If you use the Smithery CLI (requires @cowpin/mcp-server on npm when published):

npx -y @smithery/cli install @cowpin/mcp-server --client claude

Until npm publish, use the curl bridge + manual MCP config above.
